INCLUSION + DIVERSITY

At Island Om, we welcome ALL humans to join our Island Om Family. We celebrate the diversity and beauty that all beings possess and will always work to empower our students to feel good about their internal and external beauty.

We provide support to all of our students – at Island Om, we do not tolerate racism or sexism of any kind. We will always stand up for equality for all members of our family.

Our commitment to human rights is also personal. Our family has:

· hosted community donation-based classes to raise money for the Indonesia Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina victims and the Black Lives Matter movement legal defense fund;

· marched together at the 2019 NYC Women’s March and at the RI Good Shepherd Square peaceful protests of the wrongful deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and far too many others.

Our hope is that Island Om will become a place where our Roosevelt Island community can connect to each other to help begin to address the human rights issues in our current world. To us, connection begins when we have open and honest conversations where we listen, as well as talk – this type of intercommunication is both important and necessary. To help create these connections, our pledge is to host monthly gatherings to discuss timely and relevant topics affecting our community members. Your input will be needed so that we can all grow and learn together to help effect positive and long-term change in the fight for basic human rights for all of our community.
